The main focus of this weeks class was drawing fabric. Although I have had a little bit of practice drawing this I still found it challenging enough to be fun. It was also really fun to draw the harsh and soft shadowing.
I found that I was a lot better at using my graphite pencils than I was using charcoal. I just seemed to make a huge mess and smudge when I went back over to add the second tone, it actually really annoyed me.
The main thing I learnt was that It was good for me to exercise my artistic license sometimes and not draw every single fold in the fabric. This is because it often made the image look overcrowded and got rid of a lot of the highlights.
Using my artistic license also helped to add to the general flow of the fabric. Trying to make the shadowing of the fabric as accurate as possible often left it looking unlike fabric. Using my artistic license meant I was able to sketch quick and free flowing lines helped to make the form of the fabric more soft and flowing.
As a general note it was a lot more enjoyable to draw the fabric on a larger scale as it meant I could move my hands rather quickly, and because of practice this was still rather accurate.
